Summary for Monday 11th Meeting

I met my supervisors today and we discussed many issues about my research design and key concepts. There are many points that may be included in my research:

- Using scenarios in interviews is a non-threatening way to elicit in-depth feedback from interview participants about their current use, knowledge and perceptions
- Adding another item in the first part of the questionnaire about to what extent that EFL lecturers use IT in teaching and learning.
- It might be a good idea to organize a roundtable session to get lecturers together and share experience and ideas about their practicing strategies, appropriate use of ICT in their classroom contexts, or the potential use of technology in their teaching contexts. The participants’ own accounts are highlighted here as the research focuses on the participants’ beliefs and perceptions from their professional perspective. What is emphasized here is the current ‘use, thoughts, beliefs, knowledge and perceptions’ about using IT in EFL teaching in each educational setting.
- Since there will be many sources of data: survey, interviews, and observation, they should be triangulated to investigate any possibilities of associations or patterns between cognitions and behaviours.
- There has been evidence from previous studies that individual beliefs alone are not the key factors for IT integration in teaching, the sociocultural factors are perhaps more influential factors for technology adoption. Those factors could be the school IT policy, the Internet access at work or home, the students’ IT skills, and collaboration from fellow teachers and experienced IT users.
- The complexities for IT integration in the Thai EFL context should be defined and based on the context of individual current teaching environment.

I hope this week I can work on my presentation about ‘Teacher cognition and IT integration in EFL instruction’.
